Social Mission Area: Livable Communities, (Kenner, LA)
2:15
When the AARP Louisiana team began working in Kenner, they held a listening session and heard there was a public transit problem. There was only one bus, with long waits and inconvenient stops that weren’t even marked by signs. AARP volunteers rode the bus and got the mayor aboard. Within less than a year, the community had a new bus service with signs, seats and shelters at the stops, including new ones that residents needed (Social Security building, for example).
